Making the Most of Facebook Channels

Facebook Channels let you share behind-the-scenes updates, polls, and casual content directly with your audience — here’s how to get started.

Making the Most of Facebook Channels

Facebook recently rolled out Channels — a new public messaging tool that lets Pages and creators send direct updates to their audience in a more personal, chat-style format.

Think of it as a one-way broadcast chat: only the brand or creator can send messages, and followers can react or vote in polls — but they cannot reply or post in the channel. This creates a focused, clutter-free environment for updates.

Why Use Channels?

Here’s why Channels are worth trying if you manage a Facebook Page:

Stay Connected

Post quick updates, share casual behind-the-scenes moments, or highlight your latest content. It’s a low-effort way to keep your audience in the loop.

Interact at Scale

Use polls and reactions to crowdsource feedback and get input from your followers — without needing to wade through a comment section.

Build Topic-Based Communities

Create channels around specific themes (like events, product lines, or interests) to help fans stay connected to what matters most to them.

Getting Started

Creating a channel is straightforward — here’s how to do it from desktop:

  1. Go to your Facebook Page
  2. In the left-hand menu (under your profile photo), click Channels
  3. Click Create Channel
  4. Enter a name and optionally upload a channel image (or let it default to your Page profile picture)
  5. Click Create
  6. Send your first message — this is what triggers a notification to your followers to join the channel

Once the message is sent, your audience can preview and join, and you’ll be able to begin engaging with them directly.

Real Examples

Brands like Real Madrid and the NBA, and profiles like Mark Zuckerberg, are already using Channels to share sneak peeks, drive engagement to their posts, and promote upcoming events — all in a more direct way than a feed post alone.

Availability

At the time of writing, Facebook Channels are available to:

  • Pages with more than 10,000 followers
  • Profiles set to Professional Mode with more than 10,000 followers

If you don’t meet that threshold yet, you won’t see the option — but it’s worth planning for if you’re actively growing your audience.

Our Take

We see Facebook Channels as a great fit for Pages and creators that already have a strong following and want to stay top-of-mind without relying entirely on the algorithm.

It’s a one-way communication tool that feels a bit like Stories meets Broadcast — but in a persistent, scrollable feed.

Final Thoughts

If you're already creating great content, Facebook Channels might be one of the easiest ways to extend its reach, gather feedback, and keep your audience engaged — especially when algorithms fall short.
